Flipgrid:Boosting Engagement during Distance Learning!

Most teachers nowadays, especially after the spread of Covid-19 and school closure keep asking how to increase the interaction between students? How can we feel the spirit of a learning community? I have the answer! Flipgrid is a social learning platform where teachers and students record videos and share them with one another. Students will engage with their peers, post comments, and like each other's videos. In my third post, I shared a sample lesson on Descriptive Writing. I mentioned that it will be taught in a blended learning setting. The summative assessment was to write a descriptive paragraph describing their favorite video game character. Yet, as the closure of schools continues, I thought of a way to assess students in distance learning and to keep engagement high. First Sample Lesson

Today's post is all about designing a sample English lesson to teach students how to write a descriptive paragraph. This lesson is designed to be taught in a blended format. First, we should think of our learners' needs and the need of integrating technology to facilitate learning.  After that, decide on the learning objectives and what do you expect students to be able to do at the end of the lesson. The learning objectives of this lesson are based on Bloom's taxonomy cognitive domain. Students will be able to :   Describe the physical/Outer appearance of a person. (Level 2: understand) Use the simple present tense. ( Level 3: application) Use adjectives to describe a person. (Level 3:application) Differentiate between adjectives, nouns, and verbs. (Level 4: analyze) Students will choose their favorite character from a video game and describe it physically.
